Electric fences are non-lethal, yet do provide an active deterrent. The advantage of electric fencing is that it gives the potential intruder a nasty shock and secondly sounds a siren alerting you that somebody is at your perimeter.
An additional advantage is that the energiser can normally be linked to your interal house alarm, so that armed response will be alerted as well. The linking of the electric fence to the armed response has to be done by your alarm company as they need to zone the fence into their alarm system.
Our UNIQUE Mr Spike bobbin is designed to be fault proof. The wire goes through the bobbin so that the wire cannot be lifted or hit out of the bobbin. The shape is aesthetically pleasing and is available in various colours namely, white, black, grey, green, cream and brown. This makes it possible to match the colour of the bracket to the bobbin. The market in general only uses black and white bobbins.
As for the running costs of an electric fence, you can expect an average increase of only R30 in your monthly electricity bill. It is furthermore a good idea to contact us on a yearly basis to give your fence a service, though electric fences have been known to run continuously for years without giving problems, despite no or very little maintenance.
Installation costs are affected by the following factors: Where are we installing the energiser and how far is that to the nearest point on the fence? What type of bracket do you prefer: flatbar, square tubing or T-bar for example? How many strands of electric fencing do you require? Does your wall run evenly or does it have many steps in it, perhaps resulting in many ‘tie-offs’ and the use of more brackets? (A ‘tie-off’ is when we run wiring a certain distance without stopping the continuity. We then tie-off and strain a new section of fence.) How many gates do we need to conduit under or can we run straight across the gate? We offer free quotations at your home or premises and can give you an estimate over the phone.
We offer a variety of electric fences, both for the domestic and industrial market. We generally install 5, 6 & 8 strand fences, but are able to design and manufacture a variety of brackets according to your requirements.
No-Crete electric fencing is a full fence from the ground up and is unique to Mr Spike. As the name suggests we use no concrete on most of the posts. As with domestic fencing we use the unique Mr Spike bobbin. Although this type of fencing is generally used on farms and industrial sites we have done a number of domestic properties due to the aesthetically pleasing look. For example a brown bobbin on a brown powder coated post is pleasing on the eye. The type of fencing is usually installed from the ground up to 1.8m but can be done up to 3m high if required. Due to the unique product and method of installation we are able to do hundreds of meters of full electric fencing in a day. This results in considerable savings to the client. Although this type of fencing can be installed in most types of soil conditions give us a call to assess your needs and a free quotation.
Our energiser of choice is the Hammer range due to its reliability. The energiser is the ‘box’ which supplies the high voltage to the fence we have installed. Most people prefer the energiser to be installed inside the garage as it does make a continual ticking noise. Also, the garage is often in close proximity to the perimeter, which lowers installation costs. The average size of an energiser is 30cm high, 40cm wide and 10cm deep. The energiser runs off 220v and needs an SABS approved plugpoint to plug into. The energiser has a back-up battery in case of a power failure.
Legally, according to many municipal by-laws, the wiring of an electric fence should be above 1.8m and the fence must be signposted every 10m, thus alerting people to the fact that you have a live fence protecting you.
